Company Introduction

Ethicronics Ltd is a UK-based deep tech company pioneering scalable, software-driven solutions for hardware assurance. Headquartered in Cambridge, at the heart of the UK’s Silicon Fen, Ethicronics develops cutting-edge technology to ensure the authenticity and integrity of electronic hardware from the PCB level down to nanometer-scale components.

Founded in 2022 by Dr. Franck Courbon, a Franco-British expert in hardware security with 10+ years’ experience across Thales-DIS and the University of Cambridge, Ethicronics addresses a global need: the protection of electronics supply chains from counterfeit, tampered, cloned, or maliciously modified components. Today, such threats cost industries over $100 billion annually, affecting sectors from defence and aerospace to telecoms, finance, and critical infrastructure.

Ethicronics’ flagship platform, HEAVENS (Hardware Evaluation and Assurance Via ENhanced Software), is a first-of-its-kind solution offering non-destructive, software-powered certification of hardware components, including PCBs, chiplets, and embedded systems. Unlike traditional methods such as X-ray or destructive testing, HEAVENS enables via software verification with scalability, speed, resolution and affordability at heart — critical for modern supply chains.

The company collaborates with global industry leaders and public-sector stakeholders. Its projects are supported by major UK and international programmes, including the UK DASA (Defence And Security Accelerator) DTEP programme, Thales UK, and Innovate UK. Ethicronics also leads a £2.5M UK-South Korea bilateral initiative alongside the University of Oxford and a South Korean world leader in memory technology.

Ethicronics’ approach is segment-agnostic: its tools are designed to integrate easily into diverse manufacturing and procurement workflows, serving OEMs, semiconductor firms, logistics partners, and system integrators. The team includes cybersecurity, software, and systems engineering experts — working closely with academic and industrial partners worldwide.

Recognised for innovation and impact, Ethicronics has received numerous accolades, including the 2024 Business Weekly Graduate Business of the Year Award and 2024 Franco-British Small Business of the Year.

In a world increasingly reliant on complex and globally distributed electronics, Ethicronics delivers trust at scale — empowering governments, manufacturers, and consumers to depend on their hardware with confidence.
